Shortly thereafter, Kofi Annan met with representatives of the [[International Chamber of Commerce]] (ICC), which produced a joint statement on common interests. The successor of the League of Nations, the UN was founded after World War 2 - purposely or not - couldn't be prevented by the LoN. Although the IGO officially claims to aim for Peace, in particular the UN Security Council often rules against intervention often resulting in more casualties in controversial and prolonged conflicts.

The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization headquartered on international territory in New York City.[1] It was set up after WW2 and is a highly influential intergovernmental organization with global reach. Governments tend to appoint permanent representatives to the UN who are spooky diplomats with deep political connections.

Official narrative

The United Nations Explained: How Does it ACTUALLY Work? A short ON introduction - TLDR News

A forum for discussion and working out of differences without using force, to:

  • maintain international peace and security
  • develop friendly relations among nations
  • achieve international cooperation
  • be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations

History

John D. Rockefeller III, on behalf of his father donated 8,5 million USD for the purchase of the site of the UN building.[2][3] The Rockefeller Foundation also played an important role in the transition from the League of Nations to the United Nations.[4]

Structure

The two main organs of the UN are the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly. The former has a smaller membership - 15 members only, including five permanent members (China, France, Russia, UK & USA / the P5). The permanent members have veto powers, and the security council's approval is needed for resolutions involving military force.

Six principal organs

The Quiet Revolution

In 1997, Secretary-General Kofi Annan changed the organization under the pretext of combating waste[5], from dealing mostly between governments, to on being dominated by private interests (like the 'civil society' Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation[6][7]. At the 1998 World Economic Forum, Annan held a speech on his overhaul, describing it as a ‘quiet revolution’[8] which would enable it "to face the challenges of a new global era" and place it in "a stronger position to work with business and industry" He also indicated that a fundamental shift had occurred whereby the United Nations, which once dealt only with governments, recognized "that peace and prosperity cannot be achieved without partnerships involving governments, international organizations, the business community and civil society." Shortly thereafter, Kofi Annan met with representatives of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which produced a joint statement on common interests. Two main areas for cooperation were suggested: establishing an effective regulatory framework for globalisation; and raising the productive potential of poor countries by promoting the private sector. [9]

Concerns

Five of the Biggest Failures of the United Nations
UN Gaddafi.jpg

The United Nations is a thoroughly corrupted organisation probably beyond repair. For decades it has not been able to keep it's own peacekeeping forces in check and focused on their mission.[10] At headquarters cronyism and greed govern actions.[11][12] The Security Council debates have been called "a sham" and few governments even stay to hear. Non-permanent members have essentially been relegated to a role of rubber-stamping decisions made by the P5 or choosing between their contending positions.[13]

Innercitypress

Matthew Russell Lee was banned from the UN for his very critical reporting on issues related to corruption within the institution.[14][15][16][17]

2023-2024 Israel-Hamas War/Israeli invasion of Gaza“UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said after a key Hamas operations center was discovered right beneath his headquarters that he had no idea. That's absurd. There was a very advanced tunnel with electrical cables, which supplied a Hamas server center with power. That came directly from UNRWA's electricity grid. Moreover, a few years ago, UNRWA staff noticed that an entire parking lot above it was starting to subside. So what do you mean, we couldn't have known anything?”Hillel Neuer2024
Walter Cronkite“It seems to many of us that if we are to avoid the eventual catastrophic world conflict we must strengthen the United Nations as a first step toward a world government patterned after our own government with a legislature, executive and judiciary, and police to enforce its international laws and keep the peace....To do that, of course, we Americans will have to yield up some of our sovereignty. That would be a bitter pill. It would take a lot of courage, a lot of faith in the new order...We cannot defer this responsibility to posterity. Time will not wait. Democracy, civilization itself, is at stake. Within the next few years we must change the basic structure of our global community from the present anarchic system of war and ever more destructive weaponry to a new system governed by a democratic UN federation....Today we must develop federal structures on a global level. We need a system of enforceable world law - a democratic federal world government -to deal with world problems.”Walter Cronkite19 October 1999
