In USA, 1972 saw an escalating opposition to the Vietnam War. In Italy, the first Gladio bombing was carried out against the state apparatus, killing 3 policemen. This would eventually lead to the exposure of the whole program. |

The 1972 Peteano bombing claimed the lives of 3 Italian caribinieri. This was revealed in the 1980s to have been the work of Operation Gladio operatives, including Vincenzo Vinciguerra.
