In 1941, World War II was onging. In December 1941, the USA entered World War II after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This was officially a surprise attack, but a body of evidence has emerged that suggests the US government had provoked the attack and tolerated the loss of life and boats as aan effective means of boosting support for entry into the war among the US population.[1]
