The 55th Munich Security Conference 2019 was held from the 15-17th of February in Munich, Germany.
Own words
The Munich Security Conference 2019 had a particular focus on the need for more cooperation on European defense, transatlantic relations, and "disarmament". Reaching beyond traditional defence topics, human security and climate security were discussed more prominently than ever before at the MSC.[1]
In light of a rising great power competition, European leaders emphasized the need and their willingness to make the European Union a more capable actor in world affairs that can stand its ground for liberal values. German Minister of Defense Ursula von der Leyen acknowledged, "Whether we want it or not, Germany and Europe are part of this power competition. We are not neutral." In particular the need for more cooperation on European defense was a point of emphasis.
Reaching beyond traditional defense topics, human security and climate security were discussed more prominently than ever before at the MSC. During a panel discussion on the main stage, Bunny McDiarmid, Co-Executive Director of Greenpeace, was chosen to particpated because she said world leaders had so far failed to address climate change with the appropriate urgency.

A Spreading Plague was a pandemic planning exercise held at the MSC 2019, with senior leaders from around the world aimed at "identifying gaps and making recommendations to improve the global system for responding to deliberate, high consequence biological events." The exercise, one of many in an intensifying schedule of "pandemic exercises| at the end of the decade, helped establish a personal connection between health bureaucrats and people central on the global pandemic circuit from the big foundations and the US biosecurity state.
Participants
"The Munich Security Conference 2019 welcomed an unprecedented number of high-ranking international decision-makers, including more than 35 heads of government and heads of state, as well as more than 100 cabinet ministers. More than 50 senators and representatives – about 10 percent of the U.S. Congress – came to Munich."[2][3]
