An NGO focused on combating climate change. Has a very hierarchical organizational structure and is funded by Ted Turner and Rockefeller Brothers Fund among others.

Greenpeace is a global campaigning network, founded in Canada in 1971. Greenpeace states its goal is to "ensure the ability of the Earth to nurture life in all its diversity"[1]

From conservation to carbon reduction

Since the 1990s, Greenpeace changed priorities from conservation to a almost exclusive focus on reduction of carbon dioxide[citation needed].

In the 1970s, Greenpeace’s Save the Whales campaign "shone a spotlight on the cruel and unnecessary hunting of whales". As a result, a global ban on commercial whaling was introduced in 1986.[2] According to Greenpeace, "Whales also face other threats. Pollution and litter is a big problem. Whales choke on plastic, are poisoned by toxic chemicals, and become entangled in discarded fishing gear. They also suffer from injuries caused by collisions with ships, and the noise from underwater blasting as companies search for more oil. And like everything in the oceans, whales are affected by climate change."

However, as of 2023, Greenpeace a priori dismisses the construction of giant offshore wind turbines as any threat to whales, instead using dog whistle words smearing any concerns as "...a trap laid out by rightwing interests that are sowing doubt to fuel public discontent over renewable energy projects."...."In response to a tragic spate of whale deaths along the East Coast [of the USA], anti-science media such as FOX News, long beholden to fossil fuel corporations, has amplified the baseless claims made — with no supporting evidence — by a small group of local mayors that offshore wind farming is somehow to blame."[3][4]
