David Howell Petraeus is a retired United States Army general and public official. He was hired by Henry Kravis in December 2014 to head his private intelligence agency called the KKR Global Institute

Petraeus invited CIA Director Gina Haspel to the 2018 Bilderberg meeting. While not mentioned in the list of participants, it is not known whether she attended incognito. "Greetings, Director/Gina, and congrats! You are admirably prepared for your wonderful new endeavor - as I observed in a piece in the Cypher Brief this morning - and I know you will do a great job at the helm of the Agency. If there is ever anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask.
I write to encourage you to see if you can join the extraordinary folks who will be at this year's Bilderberg meeting in Turin (you received the formal invitation, also attached, earlier this morning). I have attended each of the past five years and cannot commend it too highly to you. The attendees are uniquely high quality (Henry Kissinger, Eric Schmidt, Henry Kravis, PM Rutte, the German Def Minister, John Sawers, etc., etc.) and the meeting discussions are strictly off the record. You would likely be asked to do a "conversation" (vice a speech), and I think that would provide an extraordinary opportunity to engage with some of the western world's true "influencers." It would be great if you could attend the entire gathering, but I'm sure folks would accommodate whatever time you could spend with the group.... Petraeus sent an invitation to CIA Director Gina Haspel to speak, presumably to be very richly remunerated. "Every year, KKR - the global investment firm where I am a partner - holds a one-day, off-the-record conference in Washington, DC for the Chief Investment Officers (ClOs) of 70 of the world's leading public and corporate pension funds, insurance groups, sovereign wealth funds, university endowments, and high net worth family offices. The gathering is very selective; collectively, the ClOs in attendance manage approximately $3 trillion and are among some of the world's most consequential investors.
During the symposium, we hold a range of high-level discussions about public policy, geopolitics, and macroeconomics. Mike Pompeo spoke last year in his capacity as D/CIA. Other recent participants have included then-NSA Director Mike Rogers, House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader McConnell, former National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, and Senators Lindsey Graham and Cory Booker, among others."

Career

Petraeus worked as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from September 6, 2011, until his resignation on November 9, 2012.

Michael Hastings opined that: “David Petraeus is... a world-class bullshit artist... He essentially armed and trained what later became known as ‘Iraqi death squads.’ He... took the Shiites’ side in a civil war, armed them to the teeth, and suckered the Sunnis into thinking we’d help them out too... Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis lost their lives during a sectarian conflict that Petraeus’ policies fueled... The reputations of the men who were intimately involved in these years of foreign misadventure, where we tortured and supported torture, armed death squads, conducted nightly assassinations, killed innocents, and enabled corruption on an unbelievable scale, lie in tatters.”

Operation Timber Sycamore

Bulgarian newspaper Trud reported in 2017 that Silk Way Airlines were used to funnel weapons into the Syria conflict via Azerbaijan. The Bulgarian journalist who reported on the story was subsequently fired for exposing the arms shipments

Thierry Meyssan reported in December 2018 that Petraeus pursued Operation Timber Sycamore using funding from KKR investments and Henry Kravis private funds. Operation Timber Sycamore was the largest weapons trafficking scandal in history, implicating at least 17 governments and representing many thousands of tons of weapons worth several billion dollars. As such, Kravis and Petraeus became the main suppliers for ISIS/Daesh
