The British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, was founded on 18 October 1922 by John Reith. Nominally independent, the UK General Strike of 1926 deomnstrated the fiction of this as John Reith confided to his diary: "The Cabinet decision is really a negative one. They want to be able to say that they did not commandeer us, but they know they can trust us not to be really impartial."
