Speaking about the 2015 Hawija bombing, Ank Bijleveld denied Dutch officers had accepted civilian casualties with the remark "We always calculate them. The Americans do that differently".[2]. She stated to the Dutch House of Commons that they could not "differentiate between IS and civilians in multiple instances that were under investigation by the Public Prosecution Service" in a letter to Dutch Parliament the 4th of November 2019, and blamed "wrong US intelligence and software" telling Dutch officers "no civilians lived in the neighborhood[3][4]"

Dutch Army

In November 2020 newspaper NRC revealed the Dutch Army is clandestinely spying and gathering data on Dutch protestors supporting the official opposition narrative during the Covid-19 pandemic. Calling these domestic threats the most dangerous at the moment, Bijleveld could not answer why the Dutch Army is trying to replace the tasks of the AIVD and national police.[5]

In December 2020 Bijleveld announced an "internal commission" after halting the operation.[6]

Afghanistan

Bijleveld resigned in the wake of motions of censure directed at her and foreign affairs minister Sigrid Kaag for their failings in the evacuation of civilians from Afghanistan during the Afghanistan/2021 withdrawal, after an initial refusal by Bijleveld to have done too much wrong to resign at first.[7]
