Cai-Göran Alexander Stubb is a Finnish politician who was Prime Minister of Finland from 2014 to 2015.

Education

With CIA at Furman University

Stubb studied in the U.S. at the Furman University 1989-1993. Stubb's brother had been an exchange student in the family of the Furman professor Bill Lavery a well-known CIA employee [Citation Needed], specialized in Russian studies. In his memoirs Stubb explains how he ended up at Furman: "I ended up at Furman, because my brother was an exchange student in a family, where the father Bill Lavery was a professor of Russian history at Furman. I went to see Nixu and get acquainted with the school at the same time"[1] When studying there later, "At the dormitory, I shared a pitiful room with Nick Lavery", the son of Bill Lavery .

CIA recruitment officer "put her claws into him"

Stubb then studied at the College of Europe in Brugge. Stubb tells he got acquainted with an interesting American woman called Valerie Plame. Plame was later exposed as a CIA officer[2]. Her mission at the university, frequented by future leaders, was to do recruitment[3].

Stubb tell how "We made friends with Valerie in study groups, we took same courses. It seems Valerie liked that I had studied in the U.S." Relationship between Stubb and Plame was close. Plame told him she was "an American diplomat". According to Stubb, they maintained contact for years afterwards.[4] "We kept contact after our studies. Yearly she sent letters and postcards", Stubb writes. "When Emilie was born, Valerie sent a nice ceramic photo frame with the name and date of birth of the newborn", Stubb writes. He gives much credit to her employer:

In honor of the CIA, it can be said that it has good agents: immediately she put her claws into a guy who later became Finnish premier[5]

The communication between Stubb and Plame ended when Plame was exposed in 2003, i.e. it lasted almost nine years. The fact that Plame stopped to continue to communicate with Stubb after 2003 means that the communication between the two of them was initiated by CIA Directorate of Operations Europe.[6]

Condoleezza Rice

Later, as a minister, Stubb reported directly to Condoleezza Rice. According to Stubb, they talked on the telephone "as often as a teenage couple that just started dating", Stubb writes (page 139 of the memoirs). Rice even called him three times, while he was running a marathon, Stubb writes in his memoirs. Stubb also remembers to mention what beautiful legs Rice has.[7]

Shooting

In 2015, two young men attacked Stubb’s house in Finland at night while his family was sleeping by shooting at their window.[8] One of the men died before court.[9]

Early career

Between 1995 and 1997, Stubb was a researcher at the Finnish Foreign Office, and then at the Academy of Finland from 1997 to 1999. In 1997 he began to work also as a columnist.[10]

From 1999 to 2001, Stubb was a researcher in Finland's representation in the European Union in Brussels, and a member of the Finnish government's delegation to the intergovernmental negotiations for the Treaty of Nice. In 2000, he became a lecturer at the College of Europe. Following the IGC's conclusion in 2001 he became an adviser to the President of the European Commission (then Romano Prodi) and a member of the Commission Task Force on the European Convention. In 2003 he returned to Finland's representation to the EU as a special expert and to the intergovernmental negotiations, this time for the European Constitution. When that ended in 2004, he stood for the National Coalition Party in the election to the European Parliament.[11][12] Stubb was a Member of the European Parliament for Finland from 2004 to 2008.

Foreign Minister

On 1 April 2008, Stubb's 40th birthday, the Finnish government announced that Stubb would be appointed as its new Minister for Foreign Affairs following a "scandal" surrounding his predecessor, Ilkka Kanerva, who had flirted over SMS with an erotic dancer.[13] The decision to appoint Stubb was unanimous.[14]

On his appointment, Stubb was described a supporter of Finland's accession toNATO, stating that he does not understand Finland's non-alignment policy.[15]

In 2010 Stubb and Sweden's Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt proposed the European Institute of Peace, which received support from a number of similar US/NATO-friendly deep state actors. They developed a joint non-paper that was addressed to EU High Representative Catherine Ashton.[16] At the same time, the idea of the Institute gained increasing attention among members of the European Parliament (MEP) and was particularly supported by German MEP Franziska Brantner[17] and French MEP Alain Lamassoure.[18] The institute was founded in 2014.

In 2011 when Stubb was Foreign Minister, leaked diplomatic cables from the US embassy in Helsinki stated that Jori Arvonen, Senior Political Adviser to Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb, had predicted that the National Coalition Party would aspire to lead Finland to NATO during the next parliamentary term.[19]
