Juan Luis Cebrián Echarri is a member of the Bilderberg Steering committee. He is a Spanish journalist and businessman. He is the co-founder of the Spanish daily El País, where he has led since 1976, and CEO of Prisa, a Spanish media conglomerate, from 2012 to 2017. Cebrián has been considered by various international media as one of the ten most influential Spaniards in Spain and Latin America for 44 years (from 1976 to 2019).
Background
His father Vicente Cebrián was a an important official in the Fascist regime of Francisco Franco, being senior press officer for the Franco regime and director of the newspaper Arriba, the party newspaper of the Spanish Fascist party Falange. Juan Luis Cebrián studied humanities at the Complutense University of Madrid and entered the Official Journalism School of Spain at age 15, graduating in 1963 at age 19, still in the years of the Fascist regime.
Career
Cebrián went to work as chief editor at Pueblo[1], one of the three main fascist newspapers, led by Emilio Romero, a close friend of his father.
He also participated in the founding of the relatively liberal Cuadernos magazine in 1963. In 1974 he was appointed head of the RTVE information services by the last government of the Franco dictatorship.
