UK Millionaire banker and businessman. Former Bilderberg steering committee

J. Martin Taylor is a multi-millionaire UK businessman and former member of the Bilderberg/Steering committee. He is former chief executive of Barclays Bank and former external member of the Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee.

Career

Martin Taylor was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, where he earned a degree in Oriental languages.

He joined Reuters as a journalist in 1974, before moving to the Financial Times in 1978, where he edited the paper's "Lex" column.

In 1984, he joined the board of Courtaulds, becoming chief executive of Courtaulds Textiles by 1990. He became chief executive of Barclays four years later, in 1994, remaining there until 1998. He joined the board at retail chain W H Smith in 1999, eventually becoming chief executive before departing in 2003.[1]

He was a member of the UK Parliament select Committee for Science and Technology for five years. He also joined the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) and compiled their 2001 Commission on Public/Private Partnerships report, where he insisted there should be 'no ideological barriers to private sector involvement in "core" public services such as clinical and intermediate health care, the management of education and local government services.'[2]

Taylor is vice-chairman of the board of RTL Group[3], and was formerly chairman of the agrochemical company Syngenta AG and of the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture. He was an international adviser to Goldman Sachs until 2005.

He was appointed to the Bank of England Financial Policy Committee in March 2013, but retired in 2020.

MV Odyssey

On 14 May 2022, Martin Taylor posted on the Gouvia Marina News Hub Facebook page:

On Thursday this week my boat Odyssey was berthed on B64 when someone boarded her, found their way onboard and stole my Steiner Commander 7x50 Binoculars with attached Compass. Did anyone see anything and if you hear of anyone trying to sell what are very specialised binoculars then please call me on +447786930611.

I am offering £100 reward for their return.

I have reported this to the Marina office.

Focus on the NHS

On 11 June 2022, @tomthesocialist tweeted:

I saw a message asking what my views on Keir Starmer and Wes Streeting are:

Starmer took a £95,000 donation from Martin Taylor, he has a 10m stake in UnitedHealth Group and is seeking £1bn of NHS contracts, Streeting met with Blackrock in January.

I feel the NHS is on the cards regardless.[5]
