Pierre Morel is a French diplomat who was a panelist at the 1990 Bilderberg.[1]

Education

After obtaining a law degree and then a diploma from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris, More studied of the National School of Administration (ENA) from 1969 to 1971[2].

Diplomatic career

After leaving ENA, Morel entered the diplomatic career. In 1976, he joined the embassy Moscow as first secretary, then second counselor in 1978.

In 1979, he returned to Paris as head of mission at the General Secretariat for European Affairs then as head of mission then technical advisor to the President from 1981 to 1985. He then became Director of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 1986 to 1990, he was French ambassador to the Disarmament Conference in Geneva. He then became diplomatic advisor to President François Mitterrand in 1991, he was appointed in June 1992 Ambassador of France to Russia where he stayed for four years, during which time he was also accredited to Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, as well as Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. In September 1996, he left the Russian capital to become ambassador to the People's Republic of China. In 2002, he finished his career as ambassador to the Holy See in Rome until 2006.

From 2006 to 2012, he was seconded to the European Union as special representative for Central Asia and in addition as special representative of the European Union for the crisis in Georgia between 2008 and 2011.

Other functions

In 2010, he became president of the Cultural Center of the Charterhouse of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and two years later, director of the Pharos Observatory whose objective is to contribute to the pluralism of cultures and religions[3].

In 2018, he was part of the committee organized for the centenary of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, at the town hall of the 5th arrondissement of Paris, from November 20, 2018 to January 8, 2019.[4]
