It was annexed by Germany prior to WWII.
Outlawing Internet anonymity
In 2019, the Austrian government was reported to be considering attempting to outlaw internet anonymity due to concerns about "hate speech".[1]
Glyphosate
Glyphosate was banned in Austria in 2019.[2]
The Press
During the Cold War, leading Austrian editors got bribed by the CIA to spread news stories.[3]
Passports
Austrian passports are highly desirable in intelligence circles because the country is neutral and its holders can travel just about everywhere without a visa.[4]
Deep State Events
- In 2008, the right-wing politician Jörg Haider, formerly of the Freedom Party, died in a car crash that might have been an assassination.
- In 2019, the Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache from the Freedom Party had to resign after a covert video recording of him discussing underhanded political practices. ('the Ibiza Affair'). The operation had many hallmarks of an intelligence operation.[5]
