Omid Nouripour is a German politician of the Alliance '90/The Greens who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag since 2006, representing the state of Hesse.

Nouripour is his parliamentary group's spokesman on foreign affairs, and is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Finance Committee. He is of Iranian background and moved to Germany as a child.

He is a part of the 'realist' fraction of the party, supporting a more militarist foreign policy and reduced economic connections with perceived geopolitical enemies. He is a member of a number of transatlantic networks, hugely influential US-dominated think tanks that guide German foreign policy.

Positions

In 2011, Nouripour accused the aerospace company EADS of strong-arming European governments into agreeing to fund the Airbus A400M Atlas by falsely suggesting the Franco-German-led company might otherwise collapse. This might be true, but it also aligns with talking points from US competitor Boeing.[1]

In September 2014, Nouripour spoke out in favor of air strikes against the so-called Islamic State[2]

In connection with the Ukraine crisis, Nouripour supports economic sanctions against Russia. He also advocates the prospect of Ukraine joining the EU[3]. He is chairman of the German-Ukrainian parliamentary group.[4]

In June 2020, Nouripour became a member of the new-founded suspected CIA-front Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China.
