Bundestag/Members who proposed mandatory Covid jab
In March 2022, a number of German parliamentarians proposed a law to make Covid jabs mandatory in the country, starting with everybody over 60 years of age, and rapidly expanding it to all people over 18 years of age, to be enforced with punitive fines.[1] These are the members who proposed it, not everybody who voted for it.
Overview
Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke out in favour of mandatory jabs. However, due to internal disagreements, the coalition government did not submit a government draft. The vote was therefore held without the parties requiring their parliamentarians to vote a certain way.[2]
Various initiatives on the subject of mandatory corona vaccination failed in the German Bundestag on Thursday, April 7, 2022. The Members of Parliament voted by roll call on all the proposals, which provided for mandatory vaccination from the age of 60 as of October 15, 2022. 296 Members of the Bundestag voted in a roll-call vote for the merged bill, 378 parliamentarians voted against it. Nine members abstained. Thus, the draft compromise was rejected.[3]
More than any concern for human rights, what likely saved the population from the mandate, was the 2022 Russian-Ukrainian war that started for full in February, where Germany was fully involved.
