Josef Meinrad Ackermann is a Swiss banker. He is the former CEO of Deutsche Bank, where he served until 2012. He was CEO of Bank of Cyprus from 2014 to 2019.

Ackermann joined the board of Bank of Cyprus one year after the conclusion of the Greek Debt Crisis, where the bank underwent significant restructuring.[1] During his tenure, Bank of Cyprus was de-listed from the Athens Exchange in favor of London Stock Exchange in order to "boost investor confidence". [2]

Alfred Herrhausen

Ackermann, as head of Deutsche Bank is asked on the German talk show program "Maybrit Illner", on May 13, 2010, after an interlude about Herrhausen's ambitions in debt relief for countries that are unable to pay and his violent death - in connection with the so-called financial crisis of the past years:[3]

Maybrit Illner: Mr. Ackermann, you are also head of the International Banking Federation. Couldn't you just have made such a demand to all your colleagues who came out of this crisis really clean?

Josef Ackermann: I think the same would have happened to me as it did to Mr Herrhausen. [...]”

Maybrit Illner,  Josef Ackermann (13 May 2010)  [4]
