Søren Pind[1] is a Danish lawyer and politician, a member of the liberal party Venstre. He served as Danish Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2016, and as Minister of Science, Technology, Information and Higher Education from 2016 to May 2018. He attended the 2016 and 2017 Bilderberg meetings. He is a member of George Soros' European Council on Foreign Relations.

Pind is considered more liberal than most other members of his party. In 2003, he was part of a group of party members who issued the "ten liberal theses", a document unsuccessfully challenging the direction the party was taking under Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen.[2]

Career

Søren Pind has several times marked himself as a supporter of US foreign policy and as an admirer of Ronald Reagan. He is (since 2011) president of the Danish Ronald Reagan Society.

He has taught at the University of Copenhagen. He was project manager at Waterfront Communications,a lobbying and PR firm, from 1997 to 1998.[3].

Pind served as councillor in the Copenhagen City Council from 1994 to 2005. In 1998, Pind became responsible for the department of construction and engineering.[1]

He was appointed to the Lars Løkke Rasmussen I Cabinet during a cabinet reshuffle in February 2010, becoming Minister for Development Cooperation.[4] Pind immediately promised to make his ministry a "Ministry of Freedom" by i.a. to focus on democracy and human rights.[5]

He was appointed Minister for Refugees, Immigrants and Integration on 8 March 2011, thus holding double ministerial office.[6]

Pind's first term as minister ended on October 3. 2011, after the center-left coalition prevailed in the 2011 parliamentary election.

On 28 June 2015 he was appointed as Minister of Justice in the Cabinet of Lars Løkke Rasmussen II.

On 28 November 2016 he was appointed as Minister of Science, Technology, Information and Higher Education in Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen's Cabinet III.

Since 2018, Søren Pind has been the working chairman of the board of the company Danish Cyber Defense a/s and a regular writer for Berlingske Tidende.

Free apartment from speculator

In 2008 Søren Pind, then Member of the Copenhagen City Council, was given an attractive home in Klampenborg north of Copenhagen made available free of charge by one of Denmark's most infamous real estate speculators, Carsten Leveau. The lease was made in such a way that Søren Pind did not have to pay rent for the first six months. Leveau, who has gone bankrupt and investigated for having hidden a fortune in tax havens, was a 'good acquaintance' of Pind and therefore answered yes when Søren Pind himself in 2008 approached Leveau to ask for a place to live.

Pind, who at the time was the Liberal Party's housing spokesman and therefore an extremely central person for real estate people.[7] Previously he was City Councilor responsible for construction.[8]

Carsten Leveau made the house available to Søren Pind during a period in which Søren Pind also received DKK 200,000 annually as a board member of the real estate company Nordicom, which until July 2008 had Leveau as its main shareholder.[7]
