Background
Frederiksen comes from a family of Social Democrat party activist. She attended the upper secondary school Aalborghus Gymnasium (1996).
Career
Frederiksen has no work experience outside the political system. She studied at Aalborg University, then between 2000 and 2001 was a youth consultant at the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions. She was elected as a member of parliament for Copenhagen County in the 2001 general election.
During her time in parliament, she was the spokesperson of her party for Culture, Media and Gender equality from 2001 to 2005, as well as for social affairs and a member of the Social Affairs Committee in 2005. In 2005, Mette Frederiksen also became vice-chairwoman of the Group of Social Democrats in the Folketing. At the same time, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Administration and Social Science from Aalborg University in 2007. She also completed a postgraduate course in African Studies at the University of Copenhagen and graduated with a master's degree in 2009.[2]
After the 2011 general election that led to a Social Democrats government, Frederiksen worked under Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt as Minister for Employment from 2011 to 2014 and Minister of Justice from 2014 until she succeeded her as party leader.[3]
After the 2019 general election Frederiksen was appointed Prime Minister heading an exclusively Social Democratic minority government.
"Use the correct media"
In 2025, Frederiksen said
I will need all Danes to be JOINING IN in the coming years. And contribute. And this can be done in many ways. Young people who enlist as conscripts. More people doing volunteer work. AND use the correct media. Because we are going to be flooded with fake news, misinformation, influence campaigns and artificial intelligence. Therefore, it is important that as many Danes as possible use you old media, where can you trust what is said.[4]
Endless war
On 5 March 2025, Wall Street Mav posted on X:"European leaders are retarded. Danish PM Mette Frederiksen: "Peace in Ukraine is more dangerous than the ongoing war." She won't end the war because Putin might attack someone else in the future. Under that logic, there is no end to the war ever.[5]}}
