Dr Peter R. Lavoy is a former high ranking U.S. "security" official. He was the senior expert on South Asia in the US intelligence community.[1][2]

Career

He has worked in many parts of the system, including as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs. He was succeeded by Robin Fontes.[3]

In 2003 Lavoy was director of the Center for Contemporary Conflict and co-director of the Regional Security Education Program at the Naval Postgraduate School. From June 1998 to June 2000 he was director for Counterproliferation Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.[4]

After his government jobs ended in 2014, he became Senior Director, International Government Relations at ExxonMobil in 2017.[5]

Lavoy is the author of Asymmetric Warfare In South Asia.
