Kåre Willoch is a former Norwegian PM. His pattern of Bilderberg attendance is unusual, having a 20 year gap between his first and second visit.
Backgrund
Willoch was born on 3. October 1928 at Bestum on Oslo's west side. His parents were Haakon Isaachsen Willoch (1896-1955) and Agnes Christine Saure (1895-1994).
His older brothers were Erik Willoch, who became director the Civil Aviation Authority of Norway, and Jan Willoch, who became ski manufacturer like his father and chairman of the Riksmål Society. Commander Odd Isaachsen Willoch who was commander of the armored ship "Eidsvold" when it was torpedoed in Narvik 9. april 1940, was his uncle.
During World War IIand the German occupation Willoch's father and his two older brothers went to the United Kingdom where they joined the Navy. Eventually the family came into the spotlight, and her mother was helped by the resistance to flee to Sweden in December 1944.
Education
In 1948 Kåre Willoch served in the Independent Norwegian Brigade Group in Germany, in Schleswig, a milieu where many later Norwegian deep state actors had their start. He studied economics at the University of Oslo.
Career
Before he started his political career, he worked as a secretary in the Norwegian Shipowners' Association from 1951 to 1952 and as a consultant in the Federation of Norwegian Industries from 1954 to 1963.
It attracted considerable attention when it was revealed in 1982 that Willoch as a member of Parliament also received a salary from the Norwegian Shipowners' Association and later also from the Federation of Norwegian Industries.[1][2]
From 1951 to 1955 and from 1955 to 1959 Willoch was a member of Oslo City Council. In the 1953 general election, he became a deputy to parliament (the Storting) for Oslo. At the 1957 general election, at the age of 28, he was elected to a permanent seat in the Storting, where he sat continuously until 1989.[3][4]
Willoch was Minister of trade in John Lyng's government in 1963, which was the first non-socialist government after World War II. he was also Minister of trade in Per Borten's government from 1965 to 1970.
