Bruno Tertrais has been Deputy Director of the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique (Foundation for Strategic Research, FRS), the main French think-tank on international security issues, since 2017.[1] In 2017, during the presidential campaign, Bruno Tertrais was part of the group of experts who advised Emmanuel Macron on diplomatic and military questions. Tertrais attended the 2017 Bilderberg conference.
His areas of specialization are geopolitics and international relations, crises and conflicts, American strategy and transatlantic relations, security in the Middle East and Asia and nuclear deterrence.
Education
Bruno Tertrais graduated from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris[2]. He also holds a master's degree in public law obtained at the University of Paris-Nanterre in 1984 and a Master's degree in comparative politics from the same university, obtained in 1985[3].
In 1994, he defended, at the IEP in Paris, a doctoral thesis in political science, entitled NATO's nuclear strategy: expanded deterrence and the role of American nuclear weapons in Europe, 1949-1992, under the supervision of Pierre Hassner.
Career
Bruno Tertrais began his career in the Strategic Affairs directorate of the Ministry of Defense (1993-2001)[3]. He was a visiting Fellow at the RAND Corporation 1995-1996.
He then worked at the NATO parliamentary assembly before joining the Foundation for Strategic Research (FRS) in 2001, of which he became deputy director.[4] He is also a senior fellow at the Montaigne Institute, and scientific advisor to the French High Commissioner for planning.
In 2017, during the presidential campaign, Bruno Tertrais was part of the group of experts who advised Emmanuel Macron on diplomatic and military questions.[5][6]
