Peter Corterier was a transatlantic German politician who attended the 1972and 1980 Bilderberg meetings. A member of the Social Democratic Party, he was involved in NATO support activities, such as President of the Atlantic Treaty Association.
Education
The son of Fritz Corterier, he received his doctorate in law in 1972 at the University of Bonn with the work of The Reichstag: Its competences and its procedure in the 2nd half of the 18th century.
From 1967 to 1969 he was federal chairman of the youth section of the SPD (Jusos), but was voted out as part of the left-wing turn of the Jusos.
Career
From 1969 to 1983, Corterier was a member of the [[German Bundestag]. On June 13, 1984, he returned to the Bundestag for the outgoing deputy Rainer Offergeld, to which he then belonged until 1987. From 1976 to 1977 he was Deputy chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag and from 1980 to 1981 Chairman of the Foreign and Security Policy Working Group; Intra-German Relations, European and Development Policy of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1982 to 1983, Corterier was president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Corterier was also a member of the European Parliament from 1973 to 1977. On 29 June 1981, Corterier became Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office headed by Hans-Dietrich Genscher (FDP). At that time there was a federal government under Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, supported by an SPD-FDP coalition. After the election of Helmut Kohl as Chancellor, he was dismissed from this post on October 1, 1982.
From 1982 to 1985 he held the post of president of the Atlantic Treaty Association.
