Hans-Peter Keitel is a German manager who attended the 1995 Bilderberg meeting. He later became President of the Federation of German Industries.
Education
Hans-Peter Keitel studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart, as well as industrial and economic sciences at the Technical University of Munich. He received his doctorate in 1975[1] at the Technical University of Munich with the topic of decision-making aids for the planning of underground traffic routes.
Career
After working for several years as a project manager and in senior positions at Lahmeyer International, a technical consulting company, in Germany and abroad, he worked at Hochtief, a global provider of infrastructure technology and construction services, from 1988 to 2007. As a director at the Management Board, he was responsible for international business. Keitel was a member of Hochtief's Executive Board from 1990 to 2007 and its chairman from 1992 to 2007. He then moved to the Supervisory Board.
From 2005 to the end of 2012 he was president of the Main Association of the German Construction Industry.[2] On 1 January 2009, Keitel became president of the Federation of German Industries (BDI). For several years he was a member of the international board of the consulting firm Hakluyt & Company.[3]
Keitel is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering. He was a member of its Senate for a time.
In August 2010, Keitel was one of 40 prominent signatories of the Energy Policy Appeal. This lobbying initiative of the four major German power companies (E.ON, EnBW, RWE and Vattenfall Europe) called for an extension of the operating life of German nuclear power plants. The Bundestag actually extended the terms in October 2010; however, after the start of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March 2011, it revised this.
At the suggestion of the CDU, Keitel was a member of the 13th Federal Assembly and the 14th Federal Assembly and participated in the elections of the German Federal President on May 23, 2009 and June 30, 2010, respectively.
He was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Voith GmbH & Co. KGaA, a manufacturer of machines for the pulp and paper industry, technical equipment for hydropower plants and drive and braking systems, from 2014 to 2019.[4]
