Long term associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Disappeared in 2019. Arrested in July 2020.

Ghislaine Maxwell, allegedly nicknamed 'Goodtimes Ghislaine',[1][2] daughter of spooky media mogul Robert Maxwell is a long time associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Ben Widdicome described her as "a British socialite with vast connections among the international elite".[3] She features in a notorious 2001 photograph of Prince Andrew with his hand around Virginia Roberts' waist. She fled after the arrest of Epstein, and lived on the run for a year, including in France. As she was born there, she would have been legally invulnerable to extradition had she chosen to continue living there, opening questions as to why she returned to the US to face charges.[4]

Ghislaine Maxwell is referred to as Jeffrey Epstein's "madame" or "fixer".

An August 24 2019 story in the Daily Mail reported that "Paul Page", who served in the Royal Protection Command from 1998 until 2004, alleged that Maxwell and several other women made trips to the palace to meet with the Duke of York".[5]

Meeting Donald Trump

A May 1989 report of a meeting aboard Robert Maxwell's yacht, including John Tower, John Lehman, Tom Bolan, Mort Janklow, Thomas Pickering, Peter Kalikow, Ghislaine Maxell, Helene Atkin and Donald Trump[6]

Ghislaine Maxwell had met Donald Trump by 1989.[7]

Meeting Jeffrey Epstein

"Epstein and Maxwell started dating when they met, but the relationship apparently didn't last. It's believed that after they broke up, Maxwell began to transition into the role of "madam" for Epstein... [becoming his] Madam and right hand woman after their breakup. The two kept up their elite lifestyles despite what was going on behind closed doors. Slowly though, prominent figures began to distance themselves from Epstein and Maxwell after more rumors and allegations spread."[9]

"Epstein Madam"

By January 2015 Virginia Roberts Giuffre had referred to Ghislaine as Epstein's "madame" in court,[10] after which US newspapers referred to Ghislaine as "Alleged Epstein madam".[11][12]

A now infamous photo "that speaks a thousand damning words", possibly in Maxwell's townhouse.[13][14] In 2015 The Guardian published a cropped version of this picture, that did not show the position of Andrew Windsor's hand.[15]

In July 2019, Ghislaine Maxwell requested a US court to keep sealed about 2,000 pages of documents from the 2015 lawsuit Virginia Roberts Giuffre v. Ghislaine Maxwell.[16]

On 9 July 2019, a few days after the arrest of Jeffrey Epstein, Rolling Stone published an article entitled Who Is British Socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s Longtime Partner? which headlined the claim that "The daughter of a British media mogul, Maxwell is alleged to have served as a “madam” for her billionaire partner".[17]

On 15 August 2015, the Daily Mail reported that Maxwell was "hiding out at a secluded $3M oceanfront property in Manchester-by-the-Sea", Boston, US, after not being seen in public for 3 years.[18] This was later contradicted by a New York Post article which placed her in Los Angeles,[19] but which may have used photoshopped photos.[20]

With Al Gore and Laura D'Andrea Tyson considered possibly the "inner circle" that deemed it OK, what was the purpose or reasoning behind this tweet?[21]

Maxwell was arrested in July 2020 in Bradford, New Hampshire.[4][22]

Following her arrest users on Reddit and 4chan suggested that one of the users responsible for moderating the biggest parts of the site were in fact handles of Maxwell when cross-checking some coincidences.[23][24] Former Reddit CEO Ellen Pao revealed Maxwell was suspected to be involved in sex trafficking minors already in 2011. Pao is noted to have a shared space with Maxwell in a venture capital firm, having even worked together in 2009.[25]

Denied bail

On 14 July 2020, Ghislaine Maxwell appeared via video link at Manhattan Federal Court from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, with her hair pulled back and wearing a brown t-shirt and tortoiseshell glasses.

The 58-year-old was charged with six criminal counts - four related to transporting minors for illegal sexual acts and two for perjury.

When asked by US District Judge Alison Nathan how she pleaded to the charges, Maxwell said: "Not guilty, your honour." She was denied bail after one of her accusers said Jeffrey Epstein would not have been able to abuse teenage girls without her.

The judge then scheduled her trial for 12 July 2021, with prosecuting lawyer Alison Moe estimating it could take three weeks.[26]

Speaking about her father Robert Maxwell Ghislaine commented in 1997 that "He did not commit suicide. That was just not consistent with his character. I think he was murdered."[27] She was reportedly "quite mad with grief".[28]
