The TerraMar Project was an environmentalist non-profit organization with the aim to protect the world's oceans, founded by Ghislaine Maxwell.[1] Jonathan Soros was mentioned as friend and/or supporter of the organisation in 2012 (along with others).[2][3] The project was endorsed by the Clinton foundation in 2013.[4][5][6]

History

TerraMar was founded at the Blue Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Conference in Monterey, California. A sister organisation in the United Kingdom was incorporated in 2013.[7] It's aim was to focus on the 64% of the ocean that lies outside any single country's jurisdiction (also known as the high seas or international waters) and to create a "global ocean community" based around the idea of shared ownership of the global commons.[8] According to information provided to TED talks for a presentation by Ghislaine Maxwell:[9]

“[the The TerraMar Project] collaborates with stakeholders to make the oceans part of the 2015 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”
 (2014)  [10]

TerraMar (US) announced its closure on 12 July 2019, shortly after New York federal prosecutors arrested Maxwell's close associate Jeffrey Epstein. TerraMar (UK) was officially dissolved on 3 December 2019.
