Franz Schoser is a German former business association official. He wastreasurer of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation[1], chairman of the Friends of the Institute for Economic Policy and member of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation.

Education

From 1952 to 1959 Franz Schoser studied economics at the Universities of Tübingen, Vienna and Cologne. In 1956 he received his degree in business administration and in 1959 he received his doctorate in political science and economics from Alfred Müller-Armack.[2]

Career

From 1957 to 1973 Schoser worked for the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce. From 1973 to 2002 he worked for the German Association of Industry and Commerce (from 2000 DIHK). From 1980 he became DIHT general manager. In the era of Chancellor Helmut Kohl, Schoser was considered the most influential business association official.[3] In the last few years of his tenure, Franz Schoser campaigned for a modernization of the association. From 2006 to 2011 Schoser was a member of the National Regulatory Control Council, an advisory body to the federal government giving figures of compliance costs fro all draft laws and ordinances.[4] On September 21, 2011, he resigned from this office.[5]

The CDU member Schoser is treasurer of the Institute for European Politics[6] and a member of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, of which he was treasurer from 2002 to 2018.[7] He was also treasurer of the Europa-Union Germany and, from 2004 to 2011, of the European Movement Germany network.[8][9]

Furthermore, Franz Schoser is President of the Society for International Cooperation[10], Chairman of the Foundation of the Senior Experts Service (SES), the Friends of the Institute for Economic Policy at the University of Cologne and the Otto Wolff Foundation. For many years he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Deutsche Welle and the ZNS – Hannelore Kohl Foundation. He is a former board member of the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs.[11]
