Professor Dr. Eberhard Sandschneider is is a German political scientist and East Asia expert. He attended the 2004 Bilderberg meeting, where one of the subjects was Is China Changing the World?

Education

Eberhard Sandschneider completed his studies in English, Classical Philology and Political Science at the Saarland University in 1981. In 1986 he received his doctorate on the subject of his dissertation Military and Politics in the People's Republic of China, 1969-1985. In 1993 he completed his habilitation with the thesis Stability and Transformation of Political Systems.

Career

From 1995 to 1998 he taught as a professor of International Relations at the University of Mainz. Since 1998, Sandschneider has been teaching as a professor of political science, with a focus on Chinese politics and international relations, at Free University of Berlin. From October 1999 to March 2001 he was the Managing Director of the Otto Suhr Institute at the university. Between 2003 and 2016, he was also the "Otto Wolff Director" of the Research Institute of the German Council on Foreign Relations.

His research focuses on German foreign policy, transatlantic relations, international relations in the Asia-Pacific region, comparative transformation research and the political systems of China and Taiwan. In his works, he repeatedly deals with the decline of Europe and the rise of China. Sandschneider is a member of the board of trustees of Journalists Network. From September 2012 to 2017 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Academy for Security Policy. Sandschneider is a partner of the consulting institute "Berlin Global Advisors".[1]
