German diplomat who was personal advisor of Alois Mertes when he attended the 1983 Bilderberg meeting.

Hans Henning Blomeyer-Bartenstein is a retired German diplomat. His last post was Ambassador to Chile from 2012 to 2015. Blomeyer was personal advisor of Alois Mertes in the Foreign Office when he attended the 1983 Bilderberg meeting.

Early life

Blomeyer-Bartenstein is the son of German diplomat Horst Blomeyer-Bartenstein. After graduating from high school, he studied political science and law at the Sorbonne University in Paris from 1969 to 1975 and then joined the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany).

Career

The first stop abroad was the embassy in Cairo from 1977, where he first worked in the press department and then as a political officer. In 1980 he moved to the Federal Foreign Office (AA) in Bonn, where he was employed in the department for foreign policy issues affecting Germany as a whole and Berlin. In 1982 he became personal advisor to the Ministers of State in the Foreign Office, Alois Mertes and Lutz Stavenhagen. From 1985 Blomeyer-Bartenstein was a counselor in the political department of the Washington Embassy before he was appointed deputy head of the parliamentary and cabinet departments in the Foreign Office's management staff in 1988.

In 1992 he was installed as Counselor First Class at the Tel Aviv Embassy, ​​where he held the post of Permanent Representative of the Ambassador. After briefly heading the Public Relations and Political Contacts department in the Federal Foreign Office's management staff in autumn 1995, he was transferred to the Federal Chancellery in November 1995, where he headed the Department for bilateral relations with the United States and Canada, the United Nations, until July 2001 security and disarmament policy.

In August 2001, Blomeyer-Bartenstein became deputy head of the foreign and security policy department of the Foreign Office. From July 2003 he was diplomat and permanent representative at the German Embassy in London, before being appointed Commissioner for Asia and Pacific Policy at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin in August 2007 with the rank of Ambassador.

From July 2009 to September 2012, Hans Henning Blomeyer-Bartenstein was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Austria. He then served as German ambassador in Santiago de Chile from October 2012 until his retirement in the summer of 2015.
