Stefanos Manos bis a Greek politician, former member of the Greek Parliament and former minister of the Greek government.
Family
He was born on December 20, 1939 in Athens. His father is a surgeon and former director of Evangelismos Hospital, and his mother is an entrepreneur.
Education
He studied at the University of Zurich and received a Master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1965.
Career
He was an assistant to the CEO of Allatini S.A., and subsequently held the positions of CEO, Vice President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the same company.[1]
He began his political career in 1977 in the New Democracy party, from which he became a member of the Greek Parliament in the same year. After that, he was continuously elected as a member of Parliament until 2007, with the exception of the elections of 1985 and 1989. He twice nominated himself for the post of chairman of the New Democracy Party in 1993 and 1997, but lost both times.
In April 1999, he founded the Liberal Party. In the 2000 elections, his party was in the same bloc as the New Democracy Party. Manos was elected to Parliament. Two years later, he suspended the activities of the party due to lack of financial resources.[2]
During his political career, he held several government positions. From 1977 to 1980, he was Deputy Minister of Public Works. Then he headed the Ministry of Territorial Planning, Settlement and Environment. After that, he headed the Ministry of Industry and Energy (1980-1981).
In the government of Konstantinos Mitsotakis, he was one of the first ministers in terms of influence. He first became Minister of the Environment, Territorial Planning and Public Works (1990-1991), then headed the Ministry of National Economy (1992), after that ― the Ministry of Finance (1992-1993)[3]. He also was Vice President of the Hellenic Association of the Flour Milling Industry and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GECRS.
In 2004, he was included as an independent candidate on the national ballot from the PASOK party.[4]
On March 17, 2009, Stefanos Manos, together with Vasilis Kontogiannopoulos and Yannis Boutaris, founded a new political party, Drasi, which closed in 2019.[5][6]
