Dr. Christopher J. Elias is President of the Global Development Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Previously he worked for the Population Council and PATH, He participated in the notorious 2019 Event 201 pandemic exercise.[1]

Background

Elias holds an MD from Creighton University, having completed postgraduate training in internal medicine at the University of California San Francisco, and an MPH from the University of Washington. He was a fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from Creighton University.

He is a strong proponent of extensive use of vaccines, in line with the thinking of his sponsor Bill Gates, where Elias pointed out the "The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is always looking to support innovative and creative ways to expand access to and use of vaccines."[5].

Elias was named the Schwab Foundation’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year for the United States in 2005. The Foundation is financed by Klaus Schwab, the central figure in the organizing of the World Economic Forum.

He serves on various advisory boards, including the Creigton University Board of Trustees; and the University of Washington Global Health External Advisory Board. He also represents the Gates Foundation as the chair of the Polio Oversight Board of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, the chair of the Investors Group of the Global Financing Facility, and co-chair of the Family Planning 2020 Reference Group.
