Official Narrative
The US and UK government were quick to blame the Syrian government. An anonymous aid worker, "Dr Rola" made repeated appearances on UK TV supposedly reporting on a napalm and/or incendiary attack. Full details were never disclosed and the "unverified" footage included deceitful audio editing.
False Flag Suspicions
Ron Paul was reported on August 31st, 2013 as saying about the attack "I think it’s a false flag".[1]
Britam Defence Leak
The Daily Mail, a UK newspaper published a story on January 29th, 2013 entitled "U.S. 'backed plan to launch chemical weapon attack on Syria and blame it on Assad's regime'". This was based on evidence provided by an unnamed Malaysian hacker, which began "Leaked emails have allegedly proved that the US government gave the green light to a chemical weapons attack in Syria that could be blamed on Assad's regime and in turn, spur international military action in the devastated country." The story was removed on January 31st and the newspaper ran an apology on the 18th April which stated that they had paid money to Britam Defence Ltd and that they no longer believed the email authentic.[2]
Assad blames "French Intelligence"
In August 2016, Syria said that the French Intelligence Agency DGSE had orchestrated the deadly chemical attack in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta to divert UN weapons inspectors from another incident carried out by militants in Aleppo. At a UN Security Council meeting over the Syrian conflict, Damascus's envoy to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari said:
- “The use of chemical weapons in the Damascus area was meant to prevent Dr Åke Sellström [the head of the weapons inspectors] from going to Aleppo because [France] knew who had used chemical weapons in Aleppo. They wanted to prevent Dr Sellström from reaching Aleppo by any means and therefore they used chemical weapons in Damascus with the involvement of French intelligence.”
French representative to the UN, François Delattre, said that allegations were “absurd.”[3]
