Bror Sixten Korkmanis a Finnish economist, former professor of economics and social influencer. In the years 2005–2012, he was the CEO of the Finnish Business Research Institute (ETLA) and the Finnish business lobbyist EVA.[1][2] In the spring of 2004, Korkman was a candidate for the position of Governor of the Bank of Finland, but Erkki Liikanen was appointed to the post. In 2006, Korkman attended the Bilderberg Group meeting.
Education
Korkman graduated as a high school student in 1967, as a bachelor of political science in 1970, and as a licentiate in 1974. He received his doctorate in political science in economics from the University of Helsinki in 1980.
Career
From 1970 to 1977 Korkman was an assistant at the University of Helsinki and from 1978 to 1980 a researcher at the Bank of Finland and then at the OECD Secretariat in Paris, and from 1983 to 1989 as an office manager at the Bank of Finland. In the years 1989–1995 he was the head of the National Economy Department of the Ministry of Finance and in 1995–2005 the Director General of the EU's Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) with responsibility for economic and financial issues as well as the European Union's budget and employment and social issues, from 2005–2012 CEO of the Business Delegation EVA and Business Research Institute ETLA. From August 1, 2012 to July 31, 2015, he was working life professor in the field of economics at Aalto University's Department of Economics.[3][4][5]
In the spring of 2004, Korkman was a candidate for the position of Governor of the Bank of Finland, but Erkki Liikanen was appointed to the post. In 2006, Korkman attended the Bilderberg Group meeting.
Opinions
In the early 1990s, Korkman was of the opinion that Finland's EU membership would be a mistake. Today, however, he is convinced that participation in European Union decisions and the euro as currency are in Finland's interest.[6]
In Korkman's opinion, participation income is a better idea than basic income.[7]
Korkman has stated that capitalism should be brought under control, because in excess it causes poverty and social unrest.[8]
According to him, Finland must forget tax cuts if Finland does not want to take on additional debt.[9]
In Korkman's opinion, the increase in xenophobia is due to the increase in inequality among citizens and the fear of being left behind.[10]
Family
Korkman's first wife, Marit Korkman (d. 2012), was a professor of psychology, with a doctorate in philosophy. They have three children, one of whom is a doctor of forensic psychology, Julia Korkman.[11]
Korkman is currently married to Maria Romantschuk.[12]
