Étienne Davignon, former chairman of the Bilderberg Steering Committee, stated in a 2009 interview that the Bilderberg group "helped create the euro in the 1990s". The succession of Bilderberg insiders appointed to President of the European Monetary Institute and then President of the European Central Bank bears this out.
