Dr Marjanne Sint is a Dutch civil servant and former politician. She attended the 1990 Bilderberg meeting Chairman of the Labour Party, but stepped down a year later.

Education

She took a degree in economics from the University of Amsterdam.[1]

Career

Sint had a career as a policy officer at ministries, as an editor of a free magazine for people with higher education, and as a manager at publisher VNU (later Nielsen opinion polling), when she became chairman of the PvdA on 2 April 1987. It was a turbulent period in the Labour Party (PvdA), in which the left and right wings were sometimes diametrically opposed. The PvdA was an opposition party during the Cabinet Ruud Lubbers II and, under the leadership of Wim Kok, joined the Cabinet Lubbers III in 1989.

The PvdA's loss in the municipal elections of 1990 and the provincial elections of 1991 caused even more internal turmoil. When the cabinet then wanted to intervene in the disability insurance, a crisis arose in the PvdA in the summer of 1991 that heralded the end of Sint's presidency. She was on vacation in Italy and was unreachable. In August 1991, she decided to step down. Six months later she was succeeded by Felix Rottenberg.

Sint did not return to politics. She worked as a municipal secretary for Amsterdam. From 2000 to the end of 2006, she was secretary-general of the Ministry of Housing, spatial planning and the environment. In early 2007, she continued her career in healthcare. Among other things, she became chairman of the Board of the Isala clinics in Zwolle. Since April 2014, she has been president of the Association of collaborating top clinical training hospitals (STZ)[2][3]

From 2008 to 2015, Sint was vice chairman of the Supervisory Board of the real estate company Bouwinvest. From 2014 to 2018 she was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Friesland Zorgverzekeraar and chairman of the board of PBLQ. From 2012 to 2015, she was a member and vice-chairman of the supervisory board of BNG Bank and 2015-2021 its president-Commissioner. Since 2018, Sint has been chairman of the supervisory board of the Pension Management Organisation PGGM.
