Danish politician who attended Bilderberg/1965, and became Minister for Economy in a few months later. In 1973 led the negotiations for the country's entry into the European Union.

Ivar Nørgaard was a Danish politician from the Social Democrats. Nørgaard was a co-founder of the association Frit Forum - Social Democratic Students of Denmark. He was a member of the Folketing in the period 1966-94, and held several ministerial posts in the social democratic governments from 1965 to 1982. He attended the 1965 Bilderberg meeting, a few months before he became e Minister for Economy.

Background and Early Career
Ivar Nørgaard grew up in Lyngby, became a student in 1941. He was a member of Social Democratic Youth of Denmark and co-founder of the social democratic student association, Frit Forum. He graduated in 1947, and was for a short period employed in the customs department.
From 1948 to 1955 he was secretary of the Labor Movement's Business Council. In 1957 he became principal of Esbjerg High School. In 1961 he became political editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Aktuelt and thus became a member of the Social Democratic Party's main board. In1964 he became Aktuelt's editor-in-chief and at the same time chairman of AOF (Workers' Association).
Ministerial career
In the period 1965 to 1982, he spent a total of 13 years in various ministerial posts. When Jens Otto Krag formed his second government in 1965, Ivar Nørgaard became minister. During his ministerial terms from 1972 to 1982, he was on a large part of the central government committees where his insight and experience gave him influence. He was:
- Minister of Economy in the Government of Jens Otto Krag II from 24 August 1965 , from 1 October 1967 also Minister for European Market Affairs until 2 February 1968 .
- Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Market Affairs and Nordic Affairs in the Government of Jens Otto Krag III from 11 October 1971 to 5 October 1972 .
- Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Market Affairs and Nordic Affairs in the Anker Jørgensen I Government from 5 October 1972 to 6 December 1973 .
- Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Market Affairs and Nordic Affairs in the Anker Jørgensen II Government from 6 December 1973 to 27 February 1977 .
- Minister for the Environment in the Anker Jørgensen III Government from 30 October 1978 to 26 October 1979 .
- Minister of the Economy and Minister of the Environment in the Government of Anker Jørgensen IV from 26 October 1979 to 30 December 1980 , resigned as Minister of the Environment on 28 February 1980 .
- Minister of Economy in the Government of Anker Jørgensen V from 30 December 1980 to 10 September 1982 .
During Jens Otto Krag 's reign, he became known in 1972 as a co-signatory of the EC Treaty. He was chairman of the EC's Council of Ministers in Denmark's first presidency in 1973 and vice -president of the EC Parliament. He has been a member of the board of representatives for Danmarks Nationalbank, and chaired the Danish delegation to the Council of Europe.
Later career
After he had left the post as economy minister in Anker Jørgensen 's government in 1982, Nørgaard was a member of the Danish Parliament until 1994. From 1991 to 1994 he was chairman of the Danish Parliament's Markets Committee and from 1992 to 2008 he was chairman of the Pensionisternes Samvirke. In several different positions, he made a significant contribution to the cause of the elderly during many active years as a pensioner.
Ivar Nørgaard married Inge Gothenborg in 1947. In 1974, he was married in Brøndby to child and youth consultant Sonja Saaskin.
