Italian politician and economist who attended the 1975 Bilderberg meeting.

Francesco Forte was an Italian politician, economist, academic, and newspaper columnist. He attended the 1975 Bilderberg meeting.

Education

His father was Public Prosecutor in Sondrio (Lombardy). In 1947, having won the student competition at the Collegio Ghislieri in Pavia, he enrolled in the Faculty of Law of the University of Pavia, also attending some courses in Political Science and especially the Institute of Finance of the university. In 1951 he graduated with honors and a mention for the press with a thesis in Finance Science.

Career

In 1954 he became an alternate for Ezio Vanoni, of whom he was an assistant, at the University of Milan.

In 1961 he became full professor of Finance at the University of Turin, where he was called to succeed Luigi Einaudi by Einaudi himself.

He was a member of the scientific committee of the Lombard Institute of Economic and Social Studies[1] and of the Luigi Einaudi Foundation in Turin.[2]

He was economic manager of the Socialist Party until 1982, when he became Minister of Finance of the Fanfani government. In the Craxi government he was Minister for Community policies until 1985, when he resigned to become Deputy Undersecretary for Extraordinary Interventions in the Third World (against world hunger), until 1987.

Forte was president of the International Atlantic Economic Society from 1984-1985, Vice President from 1983-1984, an Executive Committee member from 1985-1986.[3] In the same years he was full professor of Economic Policy and Finance Science at La Sapienza University of Rome.

He was president of the Politeia association since 1985, and also part of its Scientific and Technical Committee.[4]

In 1987 he was appointed honorary president of the International Institute of Public Finance[5].

He was mayor of Bormio (in the province of Sondrio) from 1988 to 1991.

He was an economic columnist and collaborator of Il Giorno, L'Espresso, Panorama, La Stampa, il Giornale, Il Sole-24 Ore, Italia Oggi,Libero, Il Foglio, and L'Occidentale. He was one of the editors of the Dictionary OF Italian Liberalism published in 2015.

In 2003 he became Professor emeritus of the Sapienza University of Rome, and adjunct professor at the Faculty of Law of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria.

He died on January 1, 2022 in Turin.[6][7]
