Erwin Lanc was an Austrian politician who was member of Club 45 and involved in the Lucona affair. He attended the 1979 Bilderberg meeting.

Education

Erwin Lanc studied law at the University of Vienna.[1]

Career

Lanc worked at the Ministry of Social Affairs from 1949 to 1955. In 1959, he joined the Vienna-based Zentralsparkasse. In 1966, he became chairman of the SPÖ in the Margareten district of Vienna. He was a member of the Vienna city council and provincial parliament from 1960 to 1966.[1]

From 1966 to 1983 he was a member of the Nationalrat. In 1973, he joined the government as the Minister of Transport. In 1977 he became Minister of the Interior, Under him, the "Gendarmerie Task Force" (GEK) was established as a nationwide anti-terrorist unit.[1]

From 1983 to 1984 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs.[2][1]

Epstein passport

In 1982, the Mossad spook Jeffrey Epstein, later known for his sexual blackmail ring, who was only 29 years old at the time and a financial manager, received a genuine Austrian passport. Only the Ministry of the Interior, in 1982 under the leadership of Minister Erwin Lanc, could have done this. The document issued at that time was found during a house search in his penthouse in New York in 2019. In the passport, Jeffrey Epstein's passport picture can be seen, but under a different name. Epstein's lawyer said in 2019 that Epstein acquired the passport just in case he was taken hostage in a plane hijacking. But the Austrian passport was not only meant for an emergency, but was actually used, for trips to France, Great Britain, Spain andSaudi Arabia, which would be evidenced by the stamps of the customs authorities.[3]

One of Epstein's first clients was deep state arms dealer Adnan Kashoggi, active in the Iran-Contra affair. At the time of the passport award to Epstein, the Austrian company Noricum supplied Iraq with artillery guns, via the pro forma recipient country Jordan, between 1981 and 1983.[3]

According to Austrian law, ordinary passports as well as service passports and diplomatic passports may only be issued to persons who have Austrian citizenship.[3]
