Barend Willem Biesheuvel was a Dutch politician of the defunct Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP) now the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party and jurist who was Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 6 July 1971 until 11 May 1973.[1][2]
Background
Barend Biesheuvel was born in Haarlemmerliede in 1920 as the fourth of five children of the wealthy farmer Arie Biesheuvel. The family belonged to the Reformed (strictly Calvinist) church.
Education
After attending the Christian Lyceum in Haarlem and graduating from high school in 1940, Biesheuvel began studying law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and at the same time worked on his parents' farm. At the time of the political crisis in the Netherlands in the 1930s, Prime Minister Hendrikus Colijn became his role model. After the end of the Second World War, Biesheuvel passed the state examination in September 1945. [3]
