Basil E. Hersov has been described as "a man with considerable influence". Like a number of other Cercle attendees, his name has been connected to arms deals.[1]

Career
Hersov has held a number of positions at or near the top of large companies in South Africa. He was, for example, executive chairman of the Anglovaal mining group,[2] chairperson of FNB, Chairman of Barclays South Africa and member of President Thabo Mbeki's economic advisory panel.[1]
BAE Arms deals
Basil E. Hersov started FTNSA Consulting, a company registered in the West Indies, which has been suggested as a beneficiary from arms dealing. Agreements with him “allow access to the very top”, according to BAE documents quoted by the the UK's Serious Fraud Office.[1]
Deep political connections
He attended Le Cercle in South Africa in 1984.[2]
