Loretta Lynch was the 83rd Attorney General of the United States, having was previously United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Career
From 2003 to 2005, she served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. On 8 November 2014, President Barack Obama nominated her to succeed Eric Holder as Attorney General.[1] On 26 February 2015, the Judiciary Committee of the United States Senate confirmed her appointment by a 12–8 vote, with all Democrats of the committee and three Republicans in favour. On 23 April 2015, Lynch was confirmed by the Senate by a 56–43 vote, making her the first African-American woman and the second woman to be confirmed for the position. She was sworn in as Attorney General on 27 April 2015 by Vice President Joe Biden.
On 15 October 2015, it was reported that Scotland's Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland, having recently met Loretta Lynch in Washington DC to review progress made in the ongoing investigation into the Lockerbie bombing, had issued an International Letter of Request to the Libyan Attorney General in Tripoli which identifies two Libyans, Abdullah Senussi and Abu Agila Mas’ud, as suspects in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. A Crown Office spokesman said:
