A number of people have suggested that AIDS caused by a HIV-virus is actually a man-made disease.

A number of people have suggested that AIDS from the HIV-virus is actually a man-made disease. These theories often state that the disease was meant to deliberately wipe out a certain segment of the population in an act of genocide.

While the theory that HIV causes AIDS most probably is wrong, this does not exclude the possibility that biological warfare research or attacks were attempted.

Problems with hypothesis

The HIV-virus does not cause Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. (AIDS). AIDS is a loose diagnosis based mostly on testing methods designed to give positive results, and and damage from lifestyle factors (drug use, chemical pollution; in Africa, malnutrition). Toxic medicines like AZT, maybe selected for this purpose, often leads to deadly effects giving the illusion of a deadly virus causing a collapse in the immune system.

This most likely hypothesis does not exclude the possibility that similar research was attempted. It is certain is that the military-industrial complex has an interest in the development of biological weapons that can target genetically similar groups of people. From the September 2000 white paper Rebuilding America's Defenses, published by the Project for the New American Century, comes the statement: "[...]advanced forms of biological warfare that can "target" specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool."

Polio vaccine causing AIDS

Several people, among them Dr. William C. Douglas, believe that the World Health Organization created the AIDS epidemic by administering contaminated smallpox vaccines to people in third world countries (including Africa) between 1966 and 1977. Dr. Robert Gallo, famous for claiming the discovery of HIV, lent credence to this theory when he said, "the link between the World Health Organization [vaccination] program and the [AIDS] epidemic in Africa is an interesting and important hypothesis. I cannot say that it actually happened, but I have been saying for some years that the use of live vaccines such as that used for smallpox can activate a dormant infection such as HIV".

In the 1998 book The River, Edward Hooper suggested that an experimental polio vaccine called CHAT, developed at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia and Paul Osterrieth, Stanley Plotkin and Hilary Koprowski, initiated the Aids pandemic by introducing simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) from the common chimpanzee into some of the million Africans who were given the vaccine between 1957 and 1960. Chimpanzee SIV is now widely recognised as the direct ancestor of the strain of HIV (HIV-1 Group M) that has caused approximately 99 per cent of infections to date. In Africa, CHAT vaccine was administered to a million people only in Belgian-ruled territories: the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) and the former UN trusteeship of Ruanda-Urundi (now Rwanda and Burundi).

The same towns and villages are also the epicentre of Group M-related Aids, twenty years later. The Laboratoire Médical de Stanleyville (LMS), which tested CHAT vaccine for safety and co-ordinated the early African vaccinations, was situated just a few miles from a chimpanzee colony, Lindi camp, which operated between 1956 and 1960.

Matilde Krim, a cancer virologist, AIDS expert, and the co-chairperson of the American Foundation for AIDS Research, has also suggested that Dr. Wolf Szmuness' hepatitis B vaccination experiments of the late 70's caused the AIDS epidemic. Unlike Cantwell, however, she attributes this to accident rather than a secret purpose.

Operation Infektion

Operation INFEKTION or Operation DENVER was the name given to a campaign run by the KGB and other Eastern European services in the 1980s to plant the idea that HIV/AIDS was a "result of secret experiments with a new type of biological weapon by the secret services of the USA and the Pentagon that spun out of control".

In 1986, the East German MfS asked its Bulgarian sister intelligence service to assist in distributing materials. The East Germans "will deliver a scientific study and other materials that prove that AIDS originated in the USA, not in Africa, and that AIDS is a product of the USA’s bioweapons research" The goal of the campaign was "exposing the dangers to mankind arising from the research, production, and use of biological weapons, and also in order to strengthen anti-American sentiments in the world and to spark domestic political controversies in the USA".

In 1985 Literaturnaya Gazeta published an article that claimed that the Centers for Disease Control had participated in a program to "create another kind of biological weapon" for the Pentagon, and that "They made a special trip to Africa, and particularly to Zaire and Nigeria, then to Latin America, to collect materials about highly pathological viruses that cannot be encountered in European and Asian countries."

One might note that the discovery of the Soviet propaganda effort does not actually disprove any US involvement, as the Soviet campaign serves as a convenient foil to blanket dismiss all relevant questions of origins and research programs.
Even the Soviets correctly noted "given that operational information has recently come to light regarding the possible actual involvement of the USA in the origins of the AIDS pandemic"... "particularly the right-wing groups in the Reagan Administration and in the Pentagon are promoting bacteriological weapons produced on the basis of new technologies, including gene technology."

Other

Dr. Alan Cantwell, author of AIDS and the Doctors of Death: An Inquiry into the Origin of the AIDS Epidemic and Queer Blood: The Secret AIDS Genocide Plot, believes that HIV is a genetically modified organism developed by US Government scientists; that it was introduced into the population through hepatitis B experiments performed on gay and bisexual men between 1978-1981 in Manhattan, Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Louis, Denver, and Chicago (these experiments were directed by Dr. Wolf Szmuness); and that there is an ongoing government and media cover-up regarding the origin of the AIDS epidemic. Similar theories have been advanced by Dr. Robert B. Strecker and by William Cooper, author of Behold A Pale Horse.

Dr. Leonard G. Horowitz, author of Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola. Nature, Accident or Intentional? and Death in the Air: Globalism, Terrorism and Toxic Warfare, has advanced the theory that the AIDS virus was engineered by such US Government defense contractors as Litton Bionetics for the purposes of bio-warfare and "population control." Dr. Horowitz believes that Jews, blacks, and hispanics are prime targets in these attempts at "population control." He cites the historical preoccupation with eugenics on the part of the American medical establishment as evidence of a greater conspiracy to commit genocide.
