François Xavier Gustave Marie Joseph Corneille Hubert, Knight de Donnea de Hamoir is a Belgian politician and a former mayor of the City of Brussels. He is also a former member of the Olivaint Conference of Belgium.[1] and President of the Egmont Institute.
De Donnea was defence minister and minister of the Brussels-Capital Region in the government Martens-IV from 1985 to 1988. He is currently a member of the Belgian Chamber of People's Representatives for the political party MR.
Biography
After his studies, de Donnea went to work at the University of Louvain. From 1967 to 1971 he was an assistant, then a lecturer from 1971 to 1977, a professor from 1980 to 1981 and an extraordinary professor from 1982 to 1997. From 1971 to 1981 he was also responsible for the Research Center in Public Administration at the Institute of Administration and Administration. At the same time, he worked as professor at the School of Military Administrators(1980-1981).
In December 1990, he performed the wedding of the duke of Brabant and Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz in the City town hall.[2]
In 2006, he became a board member of WildlifeDirect.
On 17 July 2008 he was one of three senior Belgian politicians commissioned by King Albert II to investigate ways of enabling constitutional reform talks in the light of the long-running Belgian constitutional crisis.[3] In 2009, he was appointed President of the Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC).[4]
In 2014, as he ran for the 17th time for the Brussels Mayor office, his name was misspelled in the list of candidates, forcing him to run as "François de Donnea".[5]
Immediate resignation
In March 2020, questioned for his management of retention indemnities at the management of the Liège insurance company Integrale, de Donnea announced to the board of directors of the company that he would resign presidency, with immediate effect. The abandonment of post came at the worst time, since it came the day before the Board must answer the many questions posed by its supervisory authority, the National Bank of Belgium.
The latter had dispatched its inspectors to the offices of the insurer and sent the administrators a letter, questioning the granting of generous retention bonuses (5,7 million euros) to members of the management committee, for "serious breaches", or even possible infringements of misuse of corporate assets.[6] [7]
