Stabbed to death
David Amess was stabbed to death on 15 October 2021.[8] The alleged killer was identified as Ali Harbi Ali, a British citizen of Somali descent. He was also being detained under the Terrorism Act for Amess's murder.[9] He reportedly hoped to kill Michael Gove also.[10]
It was revealed that he is the son of a former advisor to the Somalian prime minister and his uncle is the Chinese ambassador.[11][12]
On 15 October 2021, Chris Williamson tweeted:
I must pay tribute to David Amess following his horrific murder today. We shared a passion for animal rights, fire safety and fuel poverty.
When I was suspended from @UKLabour he sent me a private message of support, as he did when I lost my seat.
RIP David".[13]
MPs are calling for internet censorship legislation in response to his death.[14] Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab said that online hate is "out of control".[15]
Tony Gosling and Katharine Gun see a connection to other murders of public figures in the UK whose delivery to the hospital did take too long (Princess Diana, Jo Cox).[16]

The UK's new Culture Minister Nadine Dorries is pursuing new overreaching legislation regulating Big Tech. The "Online Safety Bill" will abolish online anonymity and empower internet censorship. There are fears that it will be the end for freedom of expression in the UK. |
