Theodoros D. Papalexopoulos was Greek businessman of Titan Cement and president of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises.[1] He attended two Bilderberg meetings, in 1989 and 1993.
Background
A member of the Papalexopoulos family, one of the richest in Greece, Theodoros Papalexopoulos was born in Lausanne and spent his childhood in Paris, Lausanne and London.[2]
Education
He graduated as a civil engineer from the Federal Technical University of Zurich and trained in Business Administration in INSEAD, France.[2]
Career
He came to Greece in 1950, did his military service in the Navy and was briefly curator at the National Technical University of Athens.[2]
Since 1952 he was active in the field of industry, mainly in the cement sector and since 1961 he started working in the family company Titan Cement of which he became as Vice President and later management consultant.[2]
He was president of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) from 1982 to 1988. He was also a member of the European Round Table of Industrialists. and the Association for the Monetary Union of Europe.[2]
He went to Brussels in 1976, at the invitation of the European Commission. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss with the commissioners and the president of the European Commission and with the Directors-General of the EU directorates, regarding Greece's application to join the EU.
He took over SEV in 1982, when socialism was politically strong in Greece, and it was the symbol and target of universal hostility. He contributed to changing these attitudes.[3]
He was also Founding member and honorary president of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), founding member and first president of the Greek-Turkish Business Council Cooperation, founding member and Honorary President of "Citizens' Movement for an Open Society", Vice president of the Foundation of the Hellenic World, founding member and First Vice President of the association Transparency International-Greece, Member of the Honorary Committee of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy" (Eliamep), and founding member of the ALBA Graduate Business School.[2]
