Andriy Yevheniyovych Biletsky was the first commander of the volunteer militia Azov Battalion. From 2014 until 2019 Biletsky was a member of Ukrainian Parliament.

Career

During the Kosovo War, Biletsky and a group of other Ukrainians attempted to join the Yugoslav Army as volunteers, but the war ended before they arrived at the front. He participated in the Ukraine without Kuchma (UBK) protests, for which he was placed under administrative arrest. In 2002 Biletsky became a leader of the Kharkiv branch of the political organization Tryzub, and was a member of the Kharkiv section of the Social-National Party of Ukraine (SNPU), but opposed the idea of its transformation into Svoboda.

After the transformation of SNPU into Svoboda and liquidation of the original Patriot of Ukraine, in 2005 Biletsky initiated a revival of the Patriot of Ukraine, independent from any political factions. The new Patriot of Ukraine initially consisted of the Kharkiv branches of UNA-UNSO, Tryzub, and former SNPU.

Monthly Review writes about a period before the Maidan, that Wikipedia at present (08/2023) leaves out:

From the ultranationalist vendetta to the anarchy of Maidan. Its verbal and ideological violence only increased, until the arrest of the main leaders of its militia (August 2011), due to a shoot-out between its members (notably a certain Sergei Kolesnik). The ideological dispute turned into a fierce vendetta, and he was seriously wounded by a henchman of his group, who shot him several times with a revolver (19 November). In response, he organized an attack on the dissident group, and was arrested for assaulting Kolesnik, and sentenced to two months in prison (December 2011). His imprisonment led to a campaign of political agitation and demonstrations, crying political repression in several Ukrainian cities (Kiev, Kharkov, Lvov, Zhitomir, etc.) which led to the arrest and conviction of many activists for attempted murder, assault and robbery. The launching of the Maïdan operation by the American CIA gave him the chance to show his mettle and to finally emerge from the shadows and the sinister neo-Nazi agitations.

Opinions

He is often cited to have written (or said) that the Ukrainian nation’s mission was to:

"lead the white races of the world in a final crusade [...] against Semite-led subhumans"

Another translation would be: "The historical mission of our Nation in this crucial century is to lead and lead the White Peoples of the world in the last crusade for their existence. A crusade against Semitic-led subhumanity."

This comes from a section of Biletsky’s 2010 manifesto Ukrayinsʹkyy Sotsial-Natsionalizm ("Ukrainian Social-Nationalism"):

"Our nationalism amounts to nothing—a mere castle built of sand—if it is not built on a foundation of blood, a foundation of race. The error common to traditional views of nationalism is to put the cart before the horse by claiming ‘the nation’ is a linguistic, cultural, territorial or socio-economic phenomenon. We certainly do not reject the importance of spiritual, cultural and linguistic factors, nor pride of place. But our deepest held conviction is that all this derives from our race, our racial identity. If the Ukrainian spirit, culture and language are unique, it is only because our racial identity is unique. If Ukraine is a paradise on earth, it is only because our race turned her into one."

"Accordingly, healing the nation’s body begins with racial purification. And then, with its racial body healed, the nation’s spirit will regenerate along with its culture, its language, and everything else. In addition to the matter of racial purity, we must be mindful of the relative value of other races. Ukrainians are part (and one of the largest and purest) of the European White race. The one that created a great civilization, that achieved mankind’s greatest accomplishments. The historic mission of our nation in this watershed century is to lead the White peoples of the world in the last crusade for their existence. To lead the crusade against the Semite-led subhumans."

The forces that have the last say on Wikipedia are not interested, or are interested to keep that information out. Dirk Pohlmann comments:

“[...] since February, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, it's been a battle, this entry of Biletsky has been rewritten, so to speak, to ultra-conservative, courageous special-operations warrior, who was always a prominent leader figure. That is the US compatible version of the neo-Nazi Biletsky, or the Nazi Biletsky and this error is in both the German Wikipedia, and the English Wikipedia. There they are not able to find it. You remember with other people they search through everything to find one single thing, they leave out 95 percent of the sources to find one that they can use to smash someone, and here they miss the worst things. These are two of the central pamphlets of Biletsky, two of his programmatic political writings that he wrote. A manifesto, so to speak, and that doesn't come up, instead he's white-washed.”
