Niels Christoffer Thygesen is a Danish professor emeritus in economics at the Department of Economics at the University of Copenhagen. He was born in Frederiksberg as the son of Jacob Christoffer Thygesen (director of A / S De danske Spritfabrikker) [3] and Rigmor, born Truelsen. He became cand.polit. in 1960 and Master of Public Administration from Harvard University the following year. 1961-64 he was employed in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and then became associate professor (1964-69) at the University of Copenhagen, in 1971 dr.polit. and from 1971 to 2004 professor at the same place. Meanwhile, in 1969-71, he was economic adviser to Malaysia.
As a teacher, his students have i.a. former bank governor Bodil Nyboe Andersen and former supervisor Peter Birch Sørensen.[2]
From 1958 to 1993 he was married to the head of department in the Ministry of Education Inge Thygesen[4]. Since 1993, Niels Thygesen has been married to Irene Thygesen.
