Lee Cain (born 1981 or 1982) is a British former journalist who was Downing Street Director of Communications under Boris Johnson from July 2019 until the end of 2020. In November 2020, Cain announced that he would resign from his position at the end of the year.[1]

As a journalist, Lee Cain was employed at a variety of corporate media outlets including The Sun, the Mirror, South West News Service, Good Morning Britain and This Morning.[2]

Own words

Charlesbye founder Lee Cain convinced the UK to ‘Take Back Control’, 'Back Boris', ‘Get Brexit Done’ and ‘Stay at Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.’ A key architect of the most successful and talked about political campaigns in modern British history - he develops data-driven messaging that is memorable, powerful and authentic.[3]

In this context the idea that such a media can hold the powerful to account is of course laughable. The British media is incestuous and dysfunctional.
