James Edward "Hoss" Cartwright[1] is a retired United States Marine Corps four-star general who was vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from August 31, 2007, to August 3, 2011. He previously was Commander of the U.S. Strategic Command, from September 1, 2004, to August 10, 2007, and Acting Commander, U.S. Strategic Command from July 9, 2004, to September 1, 2004. He retired from the Marine Corps on August 3, 2011, after nearly 40 years there.
Activities
Cartwright was probably the source of ideas and eventually also the project manager of the "Operation Olympic Games", in the framework of which the computer worm Stuxnet was developed and used against Iranian nuclear facilities. In June 2013, the US Department of Justice announced that it had opened an investigation into Cartwright, as it suspected that he himself had passed on information about the existence of the program to the New York Times in 2010, which eventually led to the unmasking of the operation.[2][3]
Outgoing President Barack Obama pardoned Cartwright on January 17, 2017, two weeks prior to his scheduled sentencing hearing.[4]
After 2011
He has since sat on the board of the Atlantic Council, and been affiliated with a number of deep state organizations, including the Aspen Strategy Group, DARPA, Council on Foreign Relations, Global Zero, and the Nuclear Threat Initiative.[5] He was a senior fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School,[6] and became a defense consultant (propagandist) for ABC News,[7] shilling for the military-industrial complex.
In addition, Cartwright was rewarded with a lucratively paid position on the board of directors of The Raytheon Company,[8] and a number of other spooky armaments companies.[5]
