Contents
Syrian insurgency
Piers Robinson and other members of the SPM working group including Vanessa Beeley, Tim Hayward and David Miller have gained considerable attention for disputing the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian insurgency, most notably in the Douma attack, alleging a coverup by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and extremist links of the White Helmets.[5]
"Assad's Useful Idiots"
On 14 April 2018, The Times reported:
Given all that is known of President Assad's willingness and capacity to inflict harm on a captive population, it would take an extraordinary degree of credulity, sophistry and ignorance to exculpate him of this atrocity. Exactly those characteristics are exemplified by a small group of academics who we report today are at respectable institutions that include the universities of Sheffield and Edinburgh.
Russia
Robinson has argued that there is no persuasive evidence to implicate the Russian government in the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and says Russia has been blamed to distract from the West's "aggressive regime change strategy" in the Middle East. He said that there is no persuasive evidence showing Russia conducted any significant propaganda campaign to influence the 2016 US Presidential election.[6]
Labour anti-semitism
Robinson said that reports of anti-semitism in the UK Labour Party during Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the party were exaggerated for political purposes.[7]
