In March 2020 Beppe Severgnini made multiple reports about COVID-19 in Italy. Asked whether people were supporting the COVID lockdown and trusted the government's decision, he reported that "almost everyone I know".[1] He also stated that military trucks had taken away 70 coffins the previous night before to have the bodies cremated elsewhere in Italy because the cemeteries and crematoriums of Bergamo couldn’t cope.[2]
In April 2020 he told CNN that "Every time I open the obituary pages of the local newspaper, I find so many people that I know have died. A whole generation is being wiped out."[3]
